The time will come when Britain regrets Brexit, Jean-Claude Juncker said on Tuesday before warning that, with a year left until the UK leaves the EU, now was the moment to turn speeches into binding treaties.

Mr Juncker was speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg when he mentioned the 29 March 2019 Brexit deadline, which was greeted with cheers by Ukip MEPs.

“The time will come when you regret your decision,” the president of the European Commission said, as Nigel Farage laughed and shook his head in disbelief.
